Sherlock 1 - Hanna 0
And it's already the last week of February. Somehow this month went by pretty quickly. January seemed to last forever but February went by relatively quick. One more week and we are in March. I am not usually a huge fan of March. It's a mostly dreary, wet, muddy month I feel like. But at the very least it feels like we are closer to spring. We're less than a month away from spring. Although what I am really looking forward to is probably more April when nature starts to become green again. But of course that also means we'll be getting closer to the busy season at work again. Guess every good thing has to come with something not so good too. Oh well. :)
Nothing all that much new here from my side right now. Didn't really do much this weekend. Just tried to catch up on a bunch of our recorded TV, went to lunch. Oh, yeah, we were supposed to have a vet appointment with Sherlock on Saturday. I think I already blocked that out. It was just a check up appointment to update her rabies shot and whatnot. Yeah, needless to say, it didn't go too well. I love that cat but god she is so wiry and squirly. We tried to get her in the carrier probably 10-15 times. I had the whole bedroom up-ended. Stuff moved out of the closet when she was hiding in a corner in there. Stuff moved out from under the bed. And at the end I had blood running down my arm and puncture wounds all up and down my arms. So finally had to call the vet, apologize and tell them I'd need to call back and reschedule. No idea how we will get this to work the next time. I mean we brought her to the vet before. We had multiple appointments with her when we first got her as a kitten but of course she was much smaller then. She is not really all that much bigger now but god she is strong for such a small cat. I look like I fought with a wild animal rather than a tiny cat. :) I did put antibiotic cream on all the punctures and scratches and that seems to be doing the trick. Everything is black and blue, bruised, now but nothing swollen so looks like we're ok.
So yeah, that was the excitement of the weekend. Otherwise luckily pretty quiet. Let's see what this week brings. Also booked a 2-night stay in the Finger Lakes for Memorial Day weekend so that's nice. Always good to have something to look forward to. :)

Mostly a quiet week
Happy President's Day. It doesn't really matter too much in the big scope of things since both Mike and I still have to go to work. But that's ok. I never got President's Day off at my old job either so it's not a big loss. Of course would be great to have a long weekend but hey is what it is right? I do have a sushi date with two work friends later so that will be fun and something to look forward to to get me through my Monday. :)
This past week was pretty quiet. Our wedding anniversary was on Monday (10th). We were going to a special dinner but then decided to push that to Tuesday instead. Tried a Mexican place we had been meaning to try for quite a while - Hacienda Don Manuel in Brookfield. Was pretty tasty and the margaritas were really good. We'll need to go back some time. Rest of the week was pretty low key as Mike was in Chicago Thursday to Sunday. So I had a bunch of quiet evenings and a quiet weekend.
Saturday I went to the library and got a few books and then stopped at the coffee shop across the street for a bit. Had some tea and a breakfast sandwich while watching the world go by. Eventually made my way back home. Brrr was a cold day on Saturday. Sunday was a bit warmer and I think today isn't supposed to be too too bad. I mean I know it is winter but I am just not a fan of it, what can I say?
Tomorrow is Mike's birthday. No big plans really. He's not a fan of big celebrations so I guess we'll see how it goes. May have a few friends join us for dinner/drinks. We'll see what happens I suppose. Will see what we do this coming weekend too. Had to cancel our plans for Chamard last weekend so maybe we'll do that this weekend or maybe the following one instead. We have a check up appointment with Sherlock at the vet on Saturday (can't believe it's been a year). So yeah, we'll see. It's only Monday so the weekend feels ten million years away. Haha.
Oh, I forgot to say. I applied for an open Associate Team Lead position in my department and had my interviews these past weeks. And found out late last week that I got it. There were two open positions so it's me and one other girl from my department. It's a promotion and a raise. Pretty exciting and a bit terrifying all at once. haha. But it's good to set challenges for one self and be able to grow and learn. On to the next adventure so to speak. :) I was a manager at my old job so really shouldn't be that much of an adjustment but of course corporate culture tends to be a bit different than what we had at my last smaller family opened company. But like I said, on to new things and new challenges. Let's see what 2020 brings. :)

Jagged Little Pill, Oscars, Anniversary & more
Yup, Monday again. It's dark and raining outside. Cold, rainy, miserable day. I guess it's better than snow. There is some snow mixing in a bit north of us but not where we are. Anyway not really motivating weather for a Monday morning but is what it is, right? Stayed up late last night watching the Oscars so that of course makes Monday even less fun as well. The Oscars were ok. The whole no host thing is a bit weird to me still. And some of the presenters seemed just out there. I dunno.
Had a good weekend. Saturday we went to the city to see the Alanis Morrisette musical "Jagged Little Pill". Such a cool show. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I really have to say they did an amazing job with creating a storyline with her songs. Such a topical current day narrative as well. Anyway, would definitely recommend. After the show we had dinner at Osteria al Doge. Delicious as always.
Sunday we slept in and ran a few errands in the morning, then had lunch at 121 in Oxford. And eventually watched the Oscars. A pretty relaxed day.
And today is our wedding anniversary - 19 years. How crazy is that? I honestly don't know where all the time has gone. Not doing anything big today really. We'll have a nice dinner but that's it. Friday is Valentine's Day. No big plans for that either. But we made plans to go to Chamard Vineyard in Clinton, CT on Saturday (15th). They have delicious food at their bistro and well of course great wine. Still need to get through this week first though. Ugh, I hate Mondays.

Hello February
And it's February. January did seem like it lasted forever. We will see how February goes. February is always a kind of busy month for us. February 10th is our wedding anniversary (19 years this year - holy crap), February 14th Valentine's Day and February 18th Mike's birthday. As the years go on we have been doing less in terms of gifts and going all out with stuff but still try to do something small. I guess we'll probably do a nice dinner. Still need to figure out what I am getting Mike for his birthday. :) Again will probably be something small but really when you have been together for that long, also makes no sense to me to get stuff that just sits around the house and collects dust. Lately we have been going more in the direction of experience gifts (walking tours, concert/Broadway tickets, ...) or vacations. Makes more sense to me.
Our work dinner on Wednesday was nice. Had way too much food of course but it was delicious. I will need to get back to eating better this week so I don't completely ruin the few pounds I managed to lose in January. Losing weight really is not easy, especially the older I get. Ugh. Anyway enough complaining about that for now.
Let's see, anything else interesting to report? Last week was a busy week at work with my year-end review, the work dinner and some other things. Oh and on Friday I was off as I had to head to the city to go to the Austrian consulate to renew my passport. All in all that appointment went pretty smooth. I did have to bring a bunch of supporting documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate, proof of citizenship, my old passport, my greencard, ..) but luckily I had everything they needed and was on my way pretty quickly. Hung out at Starbucks drinking Earl Grey tea for a bit and then had lunch at the Austrian Cafe Sabarsky about 10 blocks north of the consulate. Stopped into Old Navy and H&M on my way back to Grand Central. So yeah, all in all a pretty good day.
The weekend was pretty low key. Saturday we went to Oxford for lunch at 121 and later I spent the evening reading and cuddling with the cat. Sunday we headed to Hurricane in Newburgh for lunch and then later caught up on some recorded TV shows. Didn't bother with the Super Bowl which was fine with me. Not really a football fan. Like I said, an uneventful weekend. This upcoming weekend we have Broadway tickets to see "Jagged Little Pill". Looking forward to that!
