Lowkey weekend
And another week ahead. Almost the end of January now. I have been doing "Dry January" where you don't drink for the month of January. I decided it would be a good break and may also help with trying to lose some weight. I have lost a few pounds so that has worked out pretty well. I did give in yesterday and had some wine while watching the Grammys. Definitely feeling it this morning. Haha. I guess when you don't drink for 3+ weeks that's what happens. lol. Oh well, I will power through it, just feeling a little sluggish that's all. Going to finish out the rest of the month with no alcohol. Well except for this week Wednesday. We have our "Circle of Excellence" work dinner on Wednesday so will allow myself a couple of glasses of wine for that.
Not too much else going on really. Didn't do much this weekend. Saturday the weather was cold and rainy, with really heavy downpours at times. Very strange weather for January. But got rid of most of the snow anyway. Yesterday was nicer, a mostly sunny day. Supposed to be pretty decent for this week I think. On Friday I have to head down to the city for an appointment at the Austrian consulate to renew my passport. Kind of a pain but at least we live close enough to the consulate where it's not that big of a deal.
Yesterday, Sunday, we headed to Fairfield to have pizza at the Colony Grill. Always super delicious. Then later we watched the Grammys which was fun. It is weird though how they barely hand out any awards on TV anymore. The whole Grammy show is basically various performances. And of course it ran late so didn't get to bed till close to midnight. Oh well.
Alright that's about all. Nothing much else going on. Somewhat busy week ahead with a doctor's appointment and various work things. Let's see how it goes.

Snow and cold ... brrrrr
Remember how I wrote about the super nice weekend last week? Yeah, that of course was a fluke. We went back to January weather this past week. Brrr. Today the high is only 27F (-2C) and the temp this was morning was around 15F (-9C) with the windchill making it feel like 2F (-16C). Yeah, not really looking forward to going outside this morning. It's supposed to be cold pretty much all week.
This past weekend we also got some now. Really not all that much. Danbury got about 3 1/2 inches (8.5 cm) But it was enough to make the roads a mess of course. We went out to lunch at Rosys and by the time we were coming home our road hadn't seen a snow plow yet. We live on a crazy hill so without any sanding or plowing you can pretty much forget about it. We did try but made it barely half way up the hill. Ended up going back down and parked on the cross road at the bottom of the hill. Not really very far up to our house so not a huge deal. The mayor had declared a snow emergency (which really is ridiculous for 3 inches of snow) so technically we weren't supposed to park on the road. But there were a bunch of other cars parked as well so we took our chances. Worked out ok as our car was still there Sunday morning. :)
Sunday the weather was actually pretty nice. Sunny and above freezing so it melted some of the snow already. But now it went down to crazy freezing temps so whatever is left of the snow will most likely hang around for the rest of the week. It's Martin Luther King Day today but neither Mike or I get it off so business as usual for us really. Let's see what the week brings I suppose. Not sure I am ready to face another week but you know, it is what it is. Right?
Not too much else going on really. I don't think I wrote on here yet that I booked my next Europe trip to visit with my parents. Will be going towards mid May, spending a few days in Croatia and the rest in Austria with them. The weather should be pretty nice by then in theory. Definitely looking forward to the nicer weather months. Never been a winter person. I know some people absolutely love the snow, skiing, snow boarding, all that. Yeah, never really been my thing. I know, I know, I am probably one of the few Austrians who doesn't ski. lol.
Anyway enough of my babbling. I better finish my tea and get on with it to get ready for my Monday.

Warm January Weekend
What a nice weekend we had and now we're back to January temps. Well today won't be so bad still. Right now it's right around freezing which is of course normal for January. And our high is supposed to be a cloudy 44F (6C) which isn't bad. But over the weekend we had temps in the high 60ies (18C) which for January just felt absolutely glorious. So strange.
Saturday I ended up taking care of a bunch of stuff around the apartment that needed to be done. Put away laundry, vacuumed, put away all the Christmas decorations and the tree, decluttered and cleaned the living room a bit and even managed to get 2 letters done. I think the warm weather almost made it feel like a mini spring clean. Well whatever works, at least it's all done so that's good.
Then on Sunday we took advantage of the warmer weather and went for a 3.5 mile walk at a trail in a nearby town. Paved and relatively flat so nothing crazy but it was nice to be outside for a change and shake off the cabin fever. It also made me realize that I am definitely not in shape - haha. But it was still nice to be outside and fun to get some exercise. Afterwards we went for lunch at the Barndoor. And eventually caught up on some of our recorded TV shows.
And well here we are. It's Monday again. Ugh. Not sure I am really ready to face another week. But here we are nonetheless. Let's see what this week brings. Nothing really much new otherwise.

2020 ... Happy New Year!
Ok so first Monday of 2020. And just realized this is also my first post of 2020 so a Happy New Year's is in order I suppose. So let's see, New Year's was pretty uneventful all in all. New Year's Eve I had to work for 1/2 a day. Mike ended up getting out a little early too. Around 4pm we went to Centrico to hang out with our friends Cait and Pat. Stayed there till about 8.30-9 and then made our way home where we watched some TV (some more Mandalorian episodes - finished them New Year's Day) and eventually switched to the Times Square coverage, waiting for the ball to drop. It really did not seem that exciting. Maybe I am just getting old. lol. Anyway, was in bed around 12.30 probably.
Then New Year's Day we went to see "Cats". I had heard such awful things about it that it actually did not disappoint me as much as I thought it might. The music and score was very good but the movie itself - definitely crazy bizarre and weird. I don't know what they were thinking when they made it. I did want to go and see it, just to see for myself and I am glad we did, but not something I will need to re-watch any time soon.
Then there was work Thursday and Friday. And then the weekend. I did love the short work weeks these past few weeks but I think I am ready to get back on track and a more normal schedule. It's been crazy trying to keep track what day it is. Haha. Anyway, the weekend was pretty low key. Saturday we went to see "Uncut Gems", the new Adam Sandler movie. What a stressful movie. I did enjoy it mostly but yeah, not a quiet moment in that movie whatsoever. Sunday we didn't really do anything. Slept in late, ran a few errands, had lunch at Rosy's and then caught up on some TV before watching the Golden Globes. I do like Ricky Gervais but not sure how I felt about him as the host this time around. But all in all, a standard awards show.
And well here we are. It's Monday and off to face the first full week of 2020. Let's see how it goes.
