Beautiful Weather Weekend (finally!)
What a nice weekend. The weather has been so crazy all summer (so much rain, humidity and heat) that it was a really nice surprise to have a beautiful weekend. Mostly sunny/partly cloudy but not too hot and not humid. The whole week was actually pretty nice. There were some days that actually almost felt like fall was around the corner with the brisk blue skies. But now this week we are back to the heat, temps in the high 90ies (35C) and humidity. Today is supposed to be when it starts and then tomorrow and Wednesday are going to be the worst of it. So at least just three days I suppose. We will see what next weekend brings. We will be in Washington DC for 2 nights over Labor Day weekend so that should be fun.
So this past weekend, on Saturday we went for a walk/hike at Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining, NY. We went there one other time and enjoyed the area and trail so we decided to try a different trail this time. Enjoyable to be outside, getting some exercise and looking at the pretty scenery. Due to the weird weather this summer I feel like I haven't gotten much exercise at all really. Usually we like to go for walks/hikes on the weekends when the weather is nice but it really hasn't been possible on a lot of weekends this summer.
Yesterday, Sunday we continued to take advantage of the weather and had lunch outside at the Hopkins Inn. Another thing we like to do once every summer and usually earlier in July. But again there really hasn't been that much opportunity for nice weather to sit outside where it wasn't either oppressively humid or storming/raining or both. So it was nice to be able to go there and enjoy a delicious lunch sitting outside enjoying the scenery. Stopped into Hopkins Vineyard for a glass of wine as well.
Then last night we caught up on some recorded TV shows. I feel like we're really behind this year. Still catching up on TV from last season. The new seasons start up in mid September mostly. Oh well. Anyway now it's Monday again and another week ahead. I have a feeling it's going to be a busy week with Labor Day coming up. Well, guess we will see how it goes.

Outlander Convention Weekend
And somehow it is Monday again. Where does the time go? Today it is quite a bit cooler though and the humidity seems to have finally broken for right now. It's cloudy and I think there is still a chance of showers (rain, so much rain lately) Such weird weather this summer.
Saturday I went to New Jersey for the Outlander convention. Originally I was supposed to go with a friend but she ended up not being able to go (so sorry about your dog Falguni -- sending you lots of hugs!!) so I made the trek out to NJ by myself. It was a good although long day. Left on the train at 8.11 am and didn't get back home till after 11pm. The convention was fun even though they didn't have a lot of merchandise. Decorations also weren't all that great but they had some neat large posters where you could take pictures. Saw a bunch of the actors up close. The two main actors, Caitrona and Sam, had to cancel relatively last minute due to conflicting filming schedules but they did Skype them in for Q&A so that was nice. It was fun seeing the actors in person. I didn't spend any extra money for autograph or photo ops but it was still neat being amidst it all and just taking it all in. Met a new friend (on the bus from NY to NJ) and we hung out for the day which made the whole thing more enjoyable as well, not having to spend the whole day alone. So yeah, all in all I'd say it was a good experience.
Sunday I slept in late which felt glorious. Then we had brunch at the Barndoor and later met up with our friends Cait and Patrick. And finished out the day by catching up on some more TV shows. And somehow it is Monday again. Another week to get through. Nothing really planned for this week or the upcoming weekend. We will see what the weather brings and go from there I suppose. Right now I would be happy to go back to bed. Kind of a gloomy morning, would be great sleeping weather. Oh well.

Movie Weekend
And more humid and unstable weather. I feel like that is all we have had this summer. Haven't been able to get outside for many nice walks or hikes. It's always either hot, humid, raining or all of the above. I am really over it. I know Europe has had crazy heatwaves as well. The weather just seems crazy. Wildfires in California. Crazy all over. Ugh.
Since the weather has been less than desirable this weekend we decided to have a movie weekend. Yesterday we went to see "The Spy Who Dumped Me" and today "BlacKkKlansman". Two completely different movies but both good. Wanted to see "The Spy Who Dumped Me" mainly because of Sam Heughan but it was an enjoyable movie and the cast was great. I would recommend "BlackKkKlansman" even though it really makes you think about how things really haven't changed that much. Maybe one day.
Yesterday we had lunch at 121 and then later in the evening I had a nice evening in, just relaxing and re-watching some Outlander. Love me a nice quiet Saturday night, just relaxing.
Today we saw the movie, then lunch and in a bit we will catch up on some recorded TV shows. Still have a bunch of shows we need to catch up on before the new fall seasons start. So we better get to it. :)
Not really a whole lot else going on. Managed to get through my week of vacation coverage. Let's see what next week brings. Can't believe it is already mid August. Time is truly flying. Labor Day is only about 3 weeks away. We have a weekend away to DC over Labor Day. Looking forward to that. Always nice to get away for a few days.

Wedding Weekend - Congrats Robin & Ashley
Only realized a few days ago that I totally skipped updating last week. Guess life just got away from me. It's been really busy at work with it being the summer season plus covering for people on vacation. Guess it's August now so another month of absolute craziness, then it should start dying down again at least a little bit in September as we head into fall.
It's Monday right now and I am just tired. Not sure I am ready for another week of summer covering. Plus the weather has just been too much. Too much humidity and the heat is supposed to go up even more for the next few days as well. Heat advisory until tomorrow night I believe. Ugh. I know everyone in Europe is dealing with the same thing. At least the humidity seems to be less there but the crazy heat is still no fun. I can sympathize. I dread winter, the endless dark days, the freezing cold, ice and snow but I am about done with summer too. I wish fall and spring would last longer but it feels like we always jump from one to the other lately and never get much in between.
This past weekend was fun but definitely also tiring. :) We headed up to Boston, MA for our friends Robin and Ashley's wedding. It was a lot of fun and it was great to see them get married. But the drive up to MA was crazy with downpours the whole way. The weather finally cleared in the early evening but the humidity was just too much. Ugh. We ended up staying up late, slept in late on Sunday and then had lunch at Legal Seafoods before heading back to CT.
Now it's Monday again and another week ahead. Let's see have I missed anything else interesting since my last update? Tuesday, 7/24, we went to see Panic at the Disco at Madison Square Garden which was a lot of fun. Another late night and midweek on top of that so the theme of this post definitely seems to be tiredness. Last weekend we took advantage of the one day where it wasn't crazy humid and down-pouring and went for a hike at the White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield, CT. They have a really neat long boardwalk trail that goes in a loop around a marshy lake area. Lots of fun. Minus the bug bites. That is also a theme lately. At the wedding I got bitten by a ton more mosquitoes. So over itchy bug bites.
Alright I better wrap up here and get ready for work and face the Monday ahead. Hopefully this week will go by relatively smooth -- fingers crossed.
