Hiking, Movies, weekend fun stuff :)

20140824_114220_resized_1And already Sunday afternoon again. Ugh. Had a nice weekend though. Had both Saturday and Sunday off again. I am working the next two Saturdays so it was nice to have a true weekend this time. Next week is going to be super busy at work as its the last week before Labor Day. Any holiday means extra work but Labor Day is always extra tricky due to the schools just starting up and getting back into a groove. Well oh well.

Anyway let's not think about work just yet and focus on the weekend. :) On Saturday we slept in a little later and then went to see the Woody Allen movie "Magic in the Moonlight" at Bethel Cinema. Afterwards we drove up to 121 Restaurant in Oxford for lunch. And later met John & Jana and their friend Matt at Rizzuto's. When we got home we watched the new Outlander episode and after that "Happy Christmas" - Anna Kendrick's new movie.

Today we headed to Fairfield, CT to the CT Audubon Society where they have some nice trails. Had fun rediscovering the trails as it's been a while since we have been there. Probably walked about four miles zigzagging through the 6 acre property. All in all I can't complain about the weather we have had this summer here in CT. It's been pretty dry and not that humid most of the time. Not too many crazy hot days either.

After our nature walk we went to lunch at Flipside in Fairfield. That's where we are now and I am taking advantage of the Wi-Fi to update my blog. :)

Hiking, movies, NYC, all around fun weekend

Collage_20140817174842532_20140817174853067And already Sunday evening again. Where do my weekend hours go? Can't complain though, we did have a very nice weekend. We had both Saturday and Sunday off which was really nice.

Saturday we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and went for a hike. Checked out a 10 mile portion of the Appalachian trail that runs through a part of CT near us. The whole trail runs from Maine to Georgia and is over 2000 miles long. This particular part here in CT is relatively flat and hugs the Housatonic River for a good junk of it so there are lots of pretty views. After our hike we had a late lunch at the White Horse Pub in Marbledale. Yum.

When we got home we watched the first and second episode of "Outlander". The second one was on yesterday so now it's another week's wait till the third one. :) Yeah, yeah kind of obsessed but hey everyone has to have some kind of obsession or craziness in their lives right? ;)

Today, Sunday, we went out for breakfast and ended up driving down to see "Life after Beth" at an indie theater in NYC (the Angelika in SoHo) It's only out as a limited release right now so we decided to go see it there rather than wait for a wider release. It was a good movie. Afterwards we drove back up to Stamford to have some tapas and wine at "Barcelona".

Tomorrow it's already Monday again. Not sure I am ready for a another long week at work. Now that Labor Day is only 2 weeks away work is going to get pretty hectic. Plus the schools are starting up very soon as well so that always takes some prep too. Well oh well, one day at a time and all that.

Sunday Hiking

IMG_20140810_135223So already Sunday night again. Not sure where this last week went but it definitely flew by. Not ready for Monday tomorrow AT ALL. I have two interviews scheduled (hiring some part-time help for after the summer when the schools start back up) plus Mondays tend to be busy anyway. And we also have some technical difficulties (internet down in one of our remote office locations) that need to be addressed which will mean more work in the meantime until we can get it fixed. So yeah NOT looking forward to tomorrow.

Yesterday, Saturday, I had to work. Got out a tad before 4 and went to the movies to see "The Hundred Foot Journey". Thought it was a really good movie all in all. Afterwards we went to Two Steps to hang out for a bit.

Today we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and went for a hike. Checked out some trails at Steep Rock in Washington, CT. We had never been there before and it was fun to see something new. Some nice scenery along a river/brook and all in all pretty flat and easy .. well except for the mile and a half (out of the 5 we did) part that had us climbing over rocks and trees super close to a steep edge/drop off. When we got to the end we saw that it was marked "Dangerous". Well good to know after the fact.

Either way had a good time and it was nice to be outside enjoying nature and some excercise. Had lunch at 121 at Oxford. Later going to watch some TV and maybe a movie at home.

Outlander

Collage_20140808082711884I haven't talked about my Outlander obsession on here in quite some time so I figured it would only be right to make another post now that the first episode has been released. The official air date is tomorrow, Saturday, August 9th, on STARZ but they released the first episode a week early online so you have been able to watch it for free.

For those of you who don't know (and I am almost not sure how that's even possible because I have been babbling about this for a long time now) the Outlander TV show is based on the series of books by Diana Gabaldon.

Here is what it says on the Starz website about the show: "Outlander follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire's heart between two vastly different men in to irreconcilable lives. The "Outlander" series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure into one grandiose tale."

As I said the first episode is available for free online here if you are in the US. If you are outside of the US you will not be able to watch the episode through that link (international copyright protection as the US rights are held by Starz and international ones by Sony) unless you use a service like Hotspot Shield that re-routes your IP address to a USA one. You can find the link for that here. Friends in Germany and Canada were able to watch it that way.

I am very excited about the show and can't wait for the second episode which unfortunately won't air till next week Saturday, August 16th. Eight episodes will air straight through the end of September and after that there will be a break till early 2015. So go check it out!!

Pretty Little Demons

20140804_190249_resizedHappy Tuesday. Dragging a little this morning as we  went to the city to see a show last night. But hey gotta have fun and live a little every once in a while right?

It's always fun to be in NYC. Got to explore a new area on the Lower East Side we had never really been in before. Ate at Spitzer's Corner, then headed over to The Wren across the street from the Bowery Hotel for a few more drinks and another snack.

After that it was time to go to Pianos to see "Pretty Little Demons". It was the first time I saw them live and I was really excited to finally get to see them play. It's amazing how much talent they have at only 12 and 13 years old. Makes me wish I had any sort of musical talent, even just a little bit.

Anybody reading this should definitely check out their music. They even played at Lallapalooza in Chicago this past weekend. So cool. Now it's back to CA for them.

Well, that's about all the news here from me at the moment. Normal work day for me today. Need to get some things done, start preparing for the schools to start back up in just a few weeks plus Labor Day (where did this summer go?)

Back to the daily grind

Daily-grindAnd here I am ... back in the US .. back to the daily grind. :) Long office days and work stuff. But I guess that's normal and expected. Time flies so before long something else fun will come along to break up the monotony I am sure.

My last two days in Austria were fun. Had a nice visit with Mario, his girlfriend Barbara and baby son. Then Sunday I packed in the morning and had a nice visit with my aunt in the afternoon. Monday morning I had to get up super early again to catch my plane out of Vienna. And well now it's already Saturday again.

The week went by fairly quickly with the usual work stress and drama, nothing too out of the ordinary all in all. Today we worked till 3 and then went to the movies to see "Lucy". It was an ok movie but I wasn't super amazed by it. It was a rainy day though so going to the movies seemed like a good idea.

Tomorrow is supposed to be another rainy, unstable weather day so we will probably end up going to the movies again. Talking about heading to Stamford to a theater there to see the new Zach Braff movie "Wish I was here". Looking forward to that. And afterwards we will check out a beer bar called "Cask Republic". Should all be fun. :)

A letter went out last Tuesday to: Kimber/BC. Received a letter/owe a reply to: Charles/TN.
